SUMMO is a SMS based communication service for nurses working in the Mobile Clinics in the Western Cape, South Africa. It is a low-cost, low-tech service designed to efficently bring together patients and nurses to save the nurses one of their most important resources, TIME.
SUMMO consists of a SMS Gateway and is connected to the cloud based software, Frontline SMS. Frontline SMS enables us to set up the farm clusters for the patients so that they can sign up to the clusters with only one SMS.
That is the way how SUMMO works:
REGISTER ON SUMMO
The patient joins by sending a SMS with join + the name of its farm as one word to 08-699 080 5, e.g. joinkleindom.
The patients' phone numbers are clustered by the farms.
SEND OUT ONE MESSAGE TO REACH ALL AT ONCE
When the nurses know their exact arrival time they send out a SMS to the farm they are heading to. SUMMO notifies all the registered cell phones in the farm cluster.
PASSING ON THE INFORMATION
The patients who do not have a phone with them will be notified by the ones carrying one.
That way the nurses SAVE precious TIME and the patients do NOT MISS their TREATMENT.
